Provisional Manifesto
This is a provisional manifesto. I want to listen to the voices of the electorate to develop these ideas further.
My role as your Representative on Huntingdonshire District Council
I promise that I will come to a decision on voting according to my conscience, what is right for our constituency, my experience (in certain areas), and a consensus of voices in the electorate of the constituency of St. Ives South.
I will hold regular open public meetings in the constituency to be accountable to you the electors, and to encourage open discussions on issues which concern you. I will be consulting regularly and will be an energetic representative.
I will work closely with local councillors of all political persuasions to inform me of the needs and views of the local community of St. Ives.
I will use the website to keep you informed of news and issues which effect you. I believe in people not political parties.
Details of issues affecting you will appear regularly on my website as they arise, and you will be able to feed back to me your opinions on the District Council’s decision making processes.
I wish to be accessible to you, the voter.
I will hold a regular surgery in St. Ives.
Community Life
I believe in the equality and dignity of every human being regardless of age, race, intellect, or ability to contribute to the greater good. I wish to contribute to the development of a caring and cohesive community within our town.
Further Development in St. Ives
I will work to ensure sensitive development in St. Ives that takes into account the needs and limitations of the community and our infrastructure, lobbying other councillors so that they understand the needs of our community.
Education
I will fight for a fair financing of schools in St. Ives, and will support their work in the education and formation of our young people. I will also fight for a full and adequate provision of Youth Services for our town.
A vibrant business community in St. Ives
I will work to energise our town centre and promote local businesses. I will fight against further increases to town centre parking charges, and will lobby for an improved shopping and leisure environment. I will work to promote St. Ives as a tourist destination.
Town Centre Facilities
I will actively support and promote the Corn Exchange and other community facilities at the heart of St. Ives, such as the provision of public toilets. I will wish to avoid facilities being closed, such as the District Council office in the Town Hall.
I will lobby for the retention of a fully functioning and active fire station in St. Ives.
Transport
I will be lobbying for a swift conclusion to the Guided Bus, as well as for an improved A14. I will want to ensure that our roads are improved before there is any further major development in St. Ives.
Health
I will be watching developments at our local Hinchingbrooke Hospital carefully as it moves towards the privatisation of its management, and will be keeping you informed of developments as far as I can.
